Math.Trig Introduction

Math.Trig is a free iPhone, iPad and iPod touch app designed to help you solve triangle problems. Given some dimensions of a triangle, this app will calculate the missing values using basic trigonometry, along with the area and height of the triangle. It also provides an explanation of how the result was obtained.

Math.Trig is unique in that you can actually draw triangles straight onto the screen, as well as setting dimensions manually. It is easy to use, making it suitable for everyone from school students to designers. The app costs just 99c or 69p.

There are four tabs, the first of which is the Intro tab, which explains how to use this app.

From this screen select the Triangle tab to start drawing any type of triangle or go to File to select a different type of triangle.

What's a Triangle Solving App?

Very simply it calculates missing angles or lengths of a triangle. You input the values you know, like an angle and two side lengths, and the calculator will work out the rest using the rules of trigonometry.

Why do I need to solve triangle problems?

Students of math, need to be able to use trigonometric functions to solve many geometry problems, knowing the basics of triangle geometry is a good place to start.

In the real world triangles are everywhere, in structures such as roof rafters, bridges, buildings like the Louvre Pyramid and even stealth fighter wings! All these have to be designed and the measurements accurately calculated by finding the dimensions of a triangle.

Triangulation is also used to loacate the center of a point, your iPhone uses triangulation, to verify its position when GPS is not available!

Math.Trig User Reviews

"Drawing triangles straight onto my iPhone is great fun, especially if you pick random colors."

"I'm always a bit reluctant to let my children use a calculator instead of using their heads, so I was pleased to see this app has a section showing the trig formulas behind the solution!"
